Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced today that they are now accepting applications for the post of Chief Judge at the High Court.

The position became vacant after Hussain Shaheed, who was previously filling the position, was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge yesterday. The post is being temporarily filled by Judge Mohamed Faisal.
JSC also announced today the vacancy for High Court Judge position, following Shaheed moving to the Supreme Court.
The Chief Judge will be appointed from amongst existing judges at the High Court.
Deadline for applications for the Chief Judge position is 12pm on March 29.
Basic salary of a High Court Chief Judge is MVR 47,000. Additionally, the post comes with a living allowance of MVR 18,000 and a risk allowance of MVR 3,300. Along with this, health insurance and phone allowance will also be provided as decided upon by parliament.
Applications for the post of High Court judge can be sent in until 10am on April 10.
Some of the requirements for applying to this post are being over 25 years of age, holding a first degree in Islamic Shariah or law or law and Islamic Shariah, and holding a minimum of five years experience as a judge or lawyer.
Basic salary of a High Court judge is MVR 45,700. Living allowance of MVR 18,000 and a risk allowance of MVR 3,300 is also provided. Health insurance and phone allowance will also be provided in a manner decided upon by the parliament.
There are currently ten judges at the High Court.
