President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday nominated former Minister of Finance Ali Hashim for the post of Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
President's Office confirmed on social media that Hashim's name was forwarded to the Parliament for approval.
Hashim had previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2008-2010.
The post was vacant since former Governor of MMA Ahmed Naseer resigned in July, amidst allegations of circumventing MMA regulations. He was summoned to the Parliamentary Committee for Public Finance twice over it.
The accusations against Naseer include exerting undue influence over Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) investigations and interfering with attempts to file cases at the police.
