Harraz has proposed to instead kick off the Dhivehi Premier League in August and has called for a revision of the football calendar.
FIFA’s Member Association Senior Manager Ahmed Harraz has intervened to halt the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) from commencing the new football season in April, despite FAM’s plans to kick off the season on April 10.
It has been revealed that Harraz has instructed FAM not to proceed with the new season, and FAM has conveyed FIFA’s decision to the clubs.
During a conference with FAM member clubs on March 16, aimed at amending the FAM constitution, Harraz also urged against starting the season.
According to Mihaaru News, Harraz’s decision is intended to address issues within FAM’s constitution and to prioritize matters assigned to the Normalization Committee.
He has proposed to instead kick off the Dhivehi Premier League in August and has called for a revision of the football calendar.
Harraz, an Egyptian official overseeing the Maldives case for FIFA, has faced criticism from clubs.
Many of the 10 Dhivehi Premier League teams have already begun training, investing heavily in foreign coaches and players in preparation for the season.
Several clubs have previously accused Harraz of using his FIFA position to influence FAM’s affairs. During the extraordinary congress on March 15, which was boycotted by six clubs, some alleged that Harraz attempted to disrupt the quorum by attempting to expel CBL from the meeting.
Some of the clubs that attended the congress claim Harraz, who reportedly has close ties to former FAM Acting General Secretary Mohamed Jaushan Shareef, is working to benefit the previous FAM leadership.
Mihaaru News reached out to Harraz for a comment on the allegations, but he has not responded.
