A large number of tourists have arrived in Maldives on two cruiseliners as the new year approaches.
At present, there are two large cruiseliners docked outside Male' on the north side. One is Oceania Riviera registered in the Marshall Islands, and the other the Norwegian Sky registered in the Bahamas.
The Oceania Riviera arrived in Maldives today. Docked near Male' for a day, the ship with a capacity of 2000 will leave for Colombo, Sri Lanka tomorrow.
Norwegian Sky's Maldives agent Mayaa Maldives said in a post on X yesterday that the ship is in country for two days. It docked in Male' yesterday carrying 1,872 passengers. It is scheduled to leave tonight.
Passengers on both cruiseliners visited Male' on excursions.
With it being the peak tourism season, many tourists are arriving in Maldives via air as well. Maldivians, meanwhile, are travelling abroad during this time as it coincides with the school holidays.
Private jets arriving at the Velana International Airport has also seen an increase, with arrivals eight percent higher this year compared to 2023. This December, 148 jets have already arrived in the Maldives by last Saturday.
For the first time in history, annual tourist arrivals in Maldives have also crossed two million.
