'Al Shaali Marine Maldives' has delivered the first high-speed ferry commissioned for Raajje-Transport Link (RTL) service in Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said that the spacious high-speed ferry can accommodate a maximum of 50 passengers.

The new high-speed ferries are larger than the speedboat ferries commissioned for RTL services in Zone 1, which includes the Maldives' northernmost Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls.

MTCC said that a total of six high-speed ferries of the same size will be added to the Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls, which have been identified as Zone 5. The ferries will have designated areas for paraplegics, wheelchairs, and stretchers.

MTCC added that the RTL ferry service in these southern atolls will also connect to other atolls in the area, including Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

The high-speed ferry service, managed by MTCC, commenced at a project cost of MVR 800 million. The project is being carried out in a total of six phases, where different parts of the Maldives have been divided into separate zones.
