LUX* South Ari Atoll on Monday, donated USD 14,000 to state-funded orphanages.

During the ceremony held at the resort, LUX* South Ari's General Manager Jonas Amstad, on behalf of the resort, donated USD 7,000 to the 'Fiyavathi' orphanage in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' and USD 7,000 to the 'Kudakudhinge Hiya' in suburb Villimale'. The donations were handed over to the Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Shidhatha Shareef.

Minister Shidhatha noted that the funds would be utilized to foster a safe and secure living environment for those under state care, adding that such contributions from the private sector indeed change the lives of these children for the better.

As of January 13, 2020, there are 155 individuals under state custody, out of which 107 are below the age of 13.
