The first prosthetics and orthotics laboratory in the Maldives is set to open at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Customer Service Director of Hulhumalé Hospital Abdulla Mauroof, announced that the prosthetics and orthotics laboratory is expected to open by the end of the month with the support of the Indian government.
Mauroof said that the installations for the laboratory are ready and will be fitted this week. “This is a service that is not available in the Maldives. This would make it accessible here,” said Mauroof.

The upcoming prosthetics and orthotics lab at Hulhumalé Hospital will provide specialized care for individuals with limb loss, offering prosthetic implants and tailor-made orthotic devices.
Orthotic devices are custom-made prescription medical devices designed to address biomechanical foot issues, including gait abnormalities during walking, standing, or running.
Currently, patients in need of prosthetics and orthotics services have to travel abroad since these services are not available locally in the Maldives.
