President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a letter to parliament nominating former Elections Commission Vice President Ismail Habeeb to be appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a letter to parliament nominating former Elections Commission Vice President Ismail Habeeb to be appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives.
In a letter sent to Parliament, the President said that he has nominated his selection from amongst the applicants who responded to an announcement seeking members for the commission.
The President had only submitted Habeeb's name as his selection for the position.
The Parliament has sent the matter to the Human Rights and Gender Committee for further review.
Habeeb was first appointed as an Elections Commission member on March 13, 2013. He served 21 years at the commission in various roles and resigned last March following the conclusion of his second term as a member of the Commission.
