As technical requirements were not reached during the first round, Island Aviation has once again announced that they are seeking an Airbus A330 plane.

The first announcement seeking a widebody aircraft for Maldivian airlines was made on February 6.

Island Aviation's Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said today that the announcement has been issued for a second time as the applications received for the first announcement did not meet the requirements of the company.

Iyas said that when seeking a plane, there will be many technical requirements, for which Island Aviation also has specific standards. This includes the age of the aircraft, as well as the time period in which it has been in use. In addition to this, many factors concerning the engine will also be taken into consideration, he said.

Iyas said that they had received multiple proposals to provide an A330 even in response to the first announcement.

As per the announcement in the gazette, those who are interested in leasing an A330 plane for a period of five years should send in their proposals by April 26. The announcement says that this plane must be brought to Maldives within the third quarter of this year.

Maldivian's first widebody aircraft, also an A330, was brought to Maldives in January. The airline now conducts flights to three destinations in China with this plane. Once the second plane is brought in, Maldivian plans to introduce flights to Europe as well, the company has earlier said.

Maldivian's fleet currently consists of 25 planes. These are an Airbus A330, an A320, 8 Dash aircrafts, 4 ATRs, , 11 Dash Twin Otters.
