MNDF managed to bring the fire under control four hours after it first began.
Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure said today that services have been temporarily suspended following a fire that severely damaged the building housing the ministry and a date for the resumption of operations will be announced later.
In a statement, the ministry said that no employees were injured in the incident, although the building sustained extensive damages.
Ministry of Construction and Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, located in the building on Ameenee Magu near Dhivehiraajjeyge Adu, and the Environment Ministry on Handhuvaree Hingun were affected in the fire.
Services at all three ministries have been halted for now.
Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon, speaking with the media, stated that firefighting efforts commenced at 6:30 hrs. He said that the Maldives MNDF deployed all available equipment to tackle the fire, prioritizing the evacuation of people from nearby buildings. By the time evacuation efforts were completed, the building had become heavily engulfed in flames, he said.
