Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has moved to his official residence after nearly four months since he assumed office.
VP Hussain relocated to his official residence, Hilaaleege, with his family last Thursday.
The delay in relocation, as explained by the Vice President, was to offer time for the significant repair works needed for the residence. He had made attempts to move in to Hilaaleege during the first 10 days of this Ramadan as well.
The incumbent Vice President stated that the house required repairs and asserted that this was the state of the house even amid the former Vice President, Faisal Naseem's term of residence in the house.
It has been known that many issues surrounded the residence even amid the former Vice President's term of occupancy in the residence. The residence had faced water leakage from various areas inside the living quarters as well as electricity interruptions during this time which were found temporary solutions for.
“The roof [of Hilaaleege] is entirely damaged. The bedchambers of the former VP also leaks water. The kitchen is entirely decrepit as well. The whole place needed to undergo renovation a long time ago,” VP Hussain had shared with Mihaaru News last month.
The Vice President and his family had taken residence at the house they had lived in during his term as a parliamentarian up until their relocation to Hilaaleege.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had moved to his official residence, Muliaage from his personal residence towards the end of February this year. The President's relocation was also delayed due to pending repair work required for the living quarters.
