President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the Heritage Act, which seeks to preserve and protect subjects of cultural significance, on Thursday.
The bill was initially passed by the Parliament on August 28 at its 43rd sitting of the second session.
In addition to nsuring documentation, preservation and protection of Maldivian heritage, the Act determines all procedures and jurisdictions in this matter. It further criminalizes actions that negatively impact items or sites with historical significance.
The President also ratified an amendment to the Tax Administration Act, altering the composition of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA)’s Executive Board.
