Remand duration extended by seven days by the Criminal Court for man accused of threatening to explode the Indian High Commission. He was arrested on Saturday evening.
Twitter account with the display name "Royal Hussain Thakuru" had threatened to explode the Indian High Commission last week, stating he required RDX, a base used in military explosives. He had said he would explode the building soon.
Even though Police had not yet revealed the identity of the man arrested in this case, it has been confirmed he is Mohamed Inad, a member of the ruling party MDP. He had contested in parliament primary of the party in 2019.
The case is currently investigated by the Serious and Organised Crime Unit. Police had reminded that it is a criminal offense to incite hate towards people, institutions via social media or other platforms.
The security provided to the Indian High Commission and the Chinese Embassy was strengthened following the threats.
Additionally, MDP has condemned such attacks and calls the police for a swift and thorough investigation. They have also decided to terminate Inad's membership with the party following the serious allegations aimed at the man.
