The Housing Ministry’s server, which was damaged in the Green Building fire that impacted two other ministries as well, has been sent to Singapore for data recovery, Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthhalib confirmed today.
Speaking about the incident at a press conference held at the President's Office, the minister said that the fire erupted while a project to install backup servers in Umar Zahir Office Building was underway. He said that the server got damaged towards the end of the project.
He detailed that the servers were very badly damaged, and that they have sent the devices to Singapore for possible recovery.
Only a small number of documents survived the fire.
Former Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar highlighted the server’s importance at the time, explaining it housed essential information of the ministry, including employee records, project data, house registries, and architectural drawings.
Despite the setback, the government has assured the public that the flat list and Gedhoruveriyaa scheme beneficiary information remain secure, as they are stored in the cloud.
