The family of Nishama Mohamed has expressed concern about the delay in sending her body abroad for an autopsy.
The body of the 29-years-old was discovered on 10 December, inside her home in Haa Dhaalu atoll, Nolhivaram.
The police decided that an autopsy was required as her body was discovered under suspicious circumstances.
Nishama's father, Mohamed Ibrahim, told Mihaaru news that it was worrying that an autopsy has not been performed yet.
"I first suggested that there shouldn't even be an autopsy on her body. I'd like to bury her as soon as possible," he said.
He claimed that when he spoke to the police three or so days ago, they told him that the delay in sending her body abroad was because they were having trouble securing a ticket to India. He was also told that the next possible option was to charter a flight to send her body out on 21 December.
Bodies requiring autopsies are sent to India; there has been three autopsy requests this year alone.
The police confirmed that Nishama's body would be sent abroad; however, no specific date has been revealed yet.
The victim's husband, Aboobakuru Faisal, is the prime suspect in her murder. He has been hospitalised and is in critical condition after he attempted to commit suicide while in police custody.
