The local male arrested as the prime suspect in his wife’s murder in Haa Dhaalu atoll, Nolhivaram, has passed away while being treated at the hospital. The time of death was announced at 8:28 A.M. on 19 December.
Aboobakuru Faisal was in police custody when he attempted to commit suicide. He was rushed to Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital for medical treatment, where he was on a ventilator.
The police arrested Faisal, 35-years-old, on Sunday last week. He was rushed to hospital early on Monday morning.
Faisal went to the police station in Kulhudhuffushi on his own, after his wife was found dead in Nolhivaram. He went to the police and alleged that he was a victim of abuse.
Nishama's body was found under suspicious circumstances by the residents of the island; some of whom reported that there were strangulation marks on her neck.
While authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, the Police has said that an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of death.
Nishama and Faisal have three children together.
Reportedly, Faisal has a history of drug abuse and domestic violence. He was allegedly abusive to his ex-wife and attacked her several times when he was under the influence. She even filed reports against him with the police; however, no serious actions were ever taken at the time.
