Parliament has forwarded the names of the two nominees for the vacant Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) member posts to the Committee on Independent Institutions for review.
In today's extraordinary sitting of the Parliament, the President's letter regarding appointments to the ACC was read out. Two persons were nominated for the posts by the President from amongst the applicants.
The two nominees are:
1. Ahmed Nashid, Ma. Golden Moon
2. Asiya Azeema, Rose Villa, R. Hulhudhuffaaru
Nashid served on the police board from 2021 onwards until he was dismissed by this administration.
Azeema, with a background in law, has served as the Vice President of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Prior to this, she filled the post of Deputy Director at the Parliament.
Two member posts at the ACC became vacant following the resignations of Vice President Abdul Salam and member Thoha Mohamed in November. The two resigned following a parliament decision to remove them on allegations of corruption.
