Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Fazul Rasheed and the company’s board of directors have been suspended following revelations of land allocations to individuals outside the government’s Binveriyaa housing scheme.
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced the suspension of all board members except Chairman Ahmed Nasif to facilitate the ongoing police investigation.
Fazul Rasheed has also been suspended as Managing Director until further notice.
In a statement, PCB detailed the suspensions and listed the remaining board members affected by the decision:

- Ibrahim Yoosuf Fulhu
- Mohamed Wisham
- Ula Mohamed Rasheed
- Arif Abdul Samad
- Mohamed Najil
- Mohamed Waheed
- Fathimath Mizna Ali
- Yoosuf Waheed
Nasif, appointed on November 6, remains in his role.
The case scandal involves Fazul Rasheed’s brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of MWSC, who reportedly received land registered in his name despite not being eligible under the Binveriyaa scheme. Similar allocations to others have also been revealed.
At a press conference, Fazul said that the issue surfaced when HDC was asked permission to build boundary walls on the plots, following which land registries were sent to the Housing Ministry for verification. However, it was discovered that the land registries were made under the names of people not on the Binveriyaa beneficiary list back in in July and no action had been taken since then.
“Within this process, we have not taken action to inform the police. We are working with the Ministry of Housing to resolve this issue and believe that a permanent solution will be found,” Fazul said.
Meanwhile, President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed in a post on social media platform X, said that the government will ensure the rights of those who received land are protected.
