The parking buildings to be developed as a solution to the parking crisis in Malé City would be developed with India's assistance, said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu yesterday.
The president, in his Presidential Address in Parliament yesterday, said that the government had decided to develop environmentally friendly, renewable energy powered parking buildings in four areas of Malé City under India's concessional financing.
“I am pleased to announce that the implementation of this project will start this year,” he said.
Malé City Council has already started vacating the Maafannnu cemetery and Henveiru cemetery for the construction of parking buildings.
Increasing parking options in Malé City is a presidential pledge of Dr Muizzu. This includes developing parking buildings in the city.
The construction of parking buildings in Hulhumalé has already been announced. HDC's plan for Hulhumalé is to build 15 parking buildings with 6,000 parking spaces. The work is scheduled to be completed within two years.
