Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef submitted the amendments calling for regulations to manage the financial operations of sports associations.
Amendments to the Sports Act has been submitted to mandate the establishment of regulations to govern the financing of sports associations.
On behalf of the government, Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef submitted the draft amendments, which call for regulations to manage the financial operations of these associations. Under the amendments, associations will be required to register, and the regulations will be developed with counsel from the Sports Commissioner.
The current Sports Act allows for regulations to be made to govern the operation of associations, but the new amendments require these regulations to be established.
The proposed amendments to Article 5(e) of the Act also call for the drafting of regulations outlining the basic operational rules for associations. Additionally, the draft includes provisions for filing complaints against associations and establishing procedures for taking action against them.
The amendments further expand the roles of the Olympic and Paralympic Committees, granting them additional powers. The responsibilities of the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency and the Maldives National Institute of Sports have also been broadened. Amendment related to the management and maintenance of the Sports Fund, established by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, has also been submitted.
