State Electric Company (STELCO) on Tuesday announced a system to protect whistleblowers on cases of corruption within the company.
In a presentation shown at the reception to sign the Memorandum of Understanding to end corruption and deceit, STELCO stated that the company will protect whistleblowers on corruption and establish a system for complaint submission regarding such issues.
STELCO's Managing Director Hassan Mughnee said his aim was to make STELCO the first state company working to fight corruption, and emphasised the importance of firms that provide services to citizens.
Attending as the Chief Guest at the ceremony, the Minister at the President’s Office, Ahmed Sameer, stated that the current government has prioritised efforts against corruption.
“During the presidency of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, a major priority is to counteract corruption, deceit and illegal profits,” stated Minister Sameer, a former veteran STELCO employee.
Top officials of the government have all released their financial statements under the administration's efforts against graft, added Minister Sameer.
At the formal reception, STELCO’s upper management signed the memorandum, and the company revealed that more than 1,000 employees are to sign as well.
