Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla calls on President Solih, holds talks with Maldivian Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, on Monday, paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, which was preceded by official talks with counterpart Maldivian Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed.

During the meetings, discussions revolved around the deep 55-year-long history of diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries, as well as ways to further enhance regional trade, connectivity, economic cooperation and tourism.

Thanking the Indian government for its assistance whilst making special note of the aid provided to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, President Solih also expressed gratitude for the air-bubble initiative between the two countries.

Moreover, the foreign secretaries also deliberated on strengthening consular services between the countries, in addition to further bolstering the health sector.

Maldives conveyed appreciation for the Indian government, highlighting the numerous projects facilitated through Indian lines of credit, including the mega-infrastructural development projects, the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project (GMCP) and the Gulhifalhu Port Project,

Both the President and Foreign Secretary affirmed their mutual commitment to ensuring that Maldives-India relations always remain strong.
