President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated Meemu atoll Veyvah harbor.

The harbor was developed by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for a project total of MVR 48 million.

At the inaugural ceremony, President Solih had stressed on the plight of Veyvah prior to the harbor. The island is locally recognized for significant fisheries activities.

He emphasized on the absence of a harbor despite the island's fisheries activities.

Moreover, President Solih added construction of the harbor enhanced fishing and related commercial activities in the island. He further assured maximum utilization of the harbor by Veyvah locals.

He further highlighted on the heavy slate of development projects carried across the Maldives. He claimed a total of 115 shore protection and harbor construction projects were currently underway, with 38 of these already completed.

"The previous government had spent just MVR 2 million towards development of Veyvah, but this administration has already spent MVR 100 million towards the development of this island," President Solih commented.

The harbor development project consisted of dredging and excavation operations of 15,875 cubic meters from the island's harbor channel. Other components included construction of a 294 meters breakwater and a 373 meters revetment, with the addition of a harbor ramp.

Additional components included a paved area spanning 1,470 square meters along the harbor vicinity. MTCC had also installed street lights across the harbor zone.

President Solih has officially inaugurated Veyvah harbor amid his ongoing official trip to five residential islands of Meemu atoll.
