Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged Maldivian pilgrims to take safety precautions from diseases after their return from Hajj pilgrimage today.
The Agency released a post on social media today detailing precautionary measures for those inflicted with colds and viral fever as well as home remedies for treatments.
Highlighting important preventive measures to stay safe and avoid spread of diseases, the post urged to cover nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing and to effectively discard the tissues and other materials used. The Agency also advised to frequently wash hands with soap and routinely wear masks during travels or while performing pilgrimage.
The post also cautioned those inflicted with diseases to avoid crowds and children, further urging senior citizens and children to avoid crowded areas as well.
HPA also entreated pilgrims to seek immediate professional care if symptoms of any disease such as coughing, breathing difficulties and chest pain is exhibited within 14 days of their return. The post also requested pilgrims to share the information that they are Hajj or Umrah pilgrims with the doctor.
- Drinking more fluids
- Resting
- Use lukewarm water to wet the body in cases of fever
- Avoid taking any medication other than Paracetamol without doctor's advice
While 1,150 Maldivians had undertaken the Hajj pilgrimage this year, the pilgrims are set to return to the country starting tomorrow.
