In a special operation carried out in Hulhumale' yesterday, Maldives Immigration has issued written notice to 92 Maldivians who are employing expatriates against the law and regulations.
They were advised to amend the employment, warning that failure to comply would result in legal action.
This has come at a time when members of the public have been calling on Maldives Immigration to take action against Maldivians illegally employing expatriate workers.
In a press statement issued today, Immigration said that in yesterday's operation in Hulhumale', 314 places had been inspected, with 769 expatriates questioned. Out of these, 28 expatriates reported to have been living illegally in the country were taken into detention.
The operation saw over 200 Immigration Officers in Hulhumale'. Controller General Mohamed Shamaan and Deputy Controller Ahmed Ashfan also participated in the operation.

In addition to Immigration, officials from Police, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Health Protection Agency and Maldives Food and Drug Authority also joined the operation.
Speaking to media before the operation commenced, Controller General Shamaan advised the public to refrain from assisting expatriates living illegally in the country, and asked for public cooperation in identifying such persons.
Although the operations are currently being carried out in the Male' region, Shamaan said that it would be expanded to cover the atolls as well in the coming days.
