President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that due to the framework of the Maldives' Constitution, the parliamentary elections are key to a sitting government, and that the future trajectory of the government largely depends on the outcome of this election.

In his visit to Haa Alif Atoll Ihavandhoo, the President met with the residents and once again highlighted the importance of winning a majority in the parliamentary elections if he is to successfully fulfill the pledges made to the public.

He said that it is vital to ensure that the parliament is composed of members who will conduct work as desired by the public, and indicated that this left the people with one of two choices.

"Whether you want whatever can possibly be done to be done in whatever circumstances we end up in, or whether you want to see the pledges I made being fulfilled at fast speeds very efficiently. You have to opt for one of these routes," he said.

"The path the government will need to proceed on will be determined based on your decision there [in the parliamentary election]," the President stated.

The President highlighted that the upcoming parliamentary election is the one election where he needs the highest amount of support.

Last week, when visiting Hoarafushi, the President alleged that the Parliament deliberately obstructs the work of the government.

"You would have seen even in these past three months, we made many attempts, to fulfill pledges, even those within the Hafthaa 14 plans, while we are proceeding with work to try and do so, they step in and baselessly, you would have all seen, they present us with multiple obstructions to even running the government," the President said then.
