In a post on social media X, Gasim said that the scam is designed so that his AI generated image is promoting various offshore trading activities and investments.
He stated that he has no involvement in this, and this is a scam run by unknown persons.
Gasim cautioned the public to not be caught up in scams such as these misusing modern technology. He urged to not share fake videos such as this through social media and messaging apps.
"I am sharing this information because some individuals have reached out to me as well to verify whether these fake videos are legitimate," Gasim said.
The video that is being circulated under this scam has been generated through using footage from an interview Gasim had given to a TV channel.
The issues of AI generated footage being used in widespread scams has been rising across the world, with Maldives, too now being targeted with similar scams.
