Maldives' collaboration with Liverpool Football Club (LFC) as the club's official tourism destination partner would help the country achieve its tourism goals, said the club's greatest goal scorer of all time for Liverpool FC, Ian Rush during his visit to Anfield Football Stadium in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Maldives collaborated with Liverpool FC to make Maldives Liverpool's 'official tourist destination partner' as part of a three and half year campaign to drive up the number of tourists visiting Maldives.

On Thursday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the official launch ceremony of the campaign at LFC's Anfield Stadium.

Ian Rush posted a photo of himself with the President on social media and said "it was a real pleasure to welcome the President of Maldives Dr Mohamed Muizzu to Anfield yesterday."

Rush said that the campaign was more than just tourism, but about shared values centred around sustainability and protecting the planet.

Praising Maldives' policies to protect its fragile environment, Rush said Liverpool FC would collaborate with Visit Maldives to support these initiatives, leveraging the club's award-winning sustainability programme, The Red Way, to raise awareness and drive positive action.

Visit Maldives said the campaign aims to promote tourism in Europe as well as around the world. Liverpool also advertised Maldives in their match against Everton. In addition to the stadium's LED panels, Liverpool's social media platforms have also posted about the partnership.

According to MMPRC, the campaign will likely attract 100,000 new tourists to Maldives, bringing a USD 200 million income from the USD 2.5 million investment.
