The Maldives Soccer Mates (MSM) 7v7 League has been launched in memory of Mohamed Arif (Baka), the former Maldives national team midfielder who passed away last year.
The tournament began yesterday at Henveiru Stadium and will run until 29 March. Arif had last played for MSM in the tournament the previous year.
In the league, nine teams will compete in the over-40 veterans section, while eight teams will vie for the title in the over-50 masters section.
In yesterday’s opening matches, Muiveyo Friends triumphed 2-1 over Madistas in Veterans Group A, while Soccer Veterans secured a 5-1 victory against Muiveyo Friends in the Masters Group A.
The Veterans division includes Muiveyo Friends, Madistas, Hyenas, TC Sports Club, Maldives Soccer Mates, Lagoons Sports Club, Club PK, Victory Sports Club, and BG Sports Club.
The Masters division features Muiveyo, MSM, Club Valencia, Hyenas, Soccer Veterans, Lagoons, Victory, and Kudahenveiru United.
