Last year, the government provided discounts on utility bills as a Ramadan allowance.
During his ongoing visit to Dhaalu atoll, the President said in Kuda Huvadhoo last night that the government has decided to grant these discounts this year as well.
The government is also issuing a 48 tuna can case to each household ahead of Ramadan this year. While the tuna can cases have been disbursed to households across the atoll, issuance of tuna can cases are still ongoing in capital Male' City.
The President said last night that opposition parties are spreading false claims that utility bills will be raised during Ramadan to cover costs of disbursing tuna can cases. He dismissed these claims as baseless, assuring that discounts on utility bills will be granted during this upcoming Ramadan as well.
The President further said that the public will receive good news regarding housing as well ahead of Ramadan. He assured that the final list of recipients of the 4000 flats in Hulhumale' will be announced before Ramadan.
He also said that the government places high priority on registering land plots issued from Hulhumale', Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu, saying efforts are underway to address delays in the process.
