Residents of N. Holhudhoo have decided to protest tomorrow over delays in investigating Zakiyya Moosa's death.

The 50 year old was found dead near a storage room around the kitchen area of her home in the island on the morning of 10th September.

Zakiyya's body was found with serious injuries, and a special police unit travelled to the island to investigate the case. Her body was also taken to Malé for further investigation. However, she was buried without postmortem soon after.

Although it has been over two months since the incident, Police have declined to comment on the matter citing that it is an ongoing investigation.

This has also caused concern amongst the islanders.

A source in Holhudhoo told Mihaaru News that they plan to gather to the football ground for protest at 16:15 hrs, and that it is organised by Zakiyya's family and local youth.

The protest carries the theme "Amilla Akah Noon" [Not By Herself], demanding justice for Zakiyya while raising concerns over their disbelief that her death was a suicide.

According to a source who spoke with Mihaaru News, they are concerned over the lack of arrests and limited comments from the police regarding the matter.

"[We're] concerned due to the delays in investigation. Police have also not said anything so far. So whether this was done by some people, the concern is that they are roaming around free on the island," the person said.

They further said that the case has left a significant psychological impact on the islanders.

Zakiyya's body was discovered by an expatriate who went to her house to collect trash. According to witnesses, Zakiyya's throat was slit, and a knife was found near her body with blood on it.
