Abdul Raheem is visiting India at the invitation of Om Birla, Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament of India.
Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla is scheduled to depart for India today on an official visit.
He announced his departure during today’s Parliament sitting, before handing over the chair to Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim.
Abdul Raheem is visiting India at the invitation of Om Birla, Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament of India.
The Indian government earlier said that Abdul Raheem will be on a four-day visit with a parliamentary delegation.
The visit is part of India’s 'neighbourhood-first' policy, aiming to strengthen ties between India and other countries' legislative bodies.
This will be Abdul Raheem's first official visit to India since he was elected Speaker of Parliament.
