President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to import boulder rocks to accelerate delayed projects such as harbor development, land reclamation, and shore protection.
Speaking to residents of Gaafu Dhaalu Rathafandhoo during his tour of Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu atolls, the President acknowledged that several projects assigned to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have faced delays due to a lack of materials and funding.
“Some projects, such as shore protection and harbor development, have been stalled because of insufficient boulder rocks,” he said.
To address this Minister of Finance, Moosa Zameer, Construction Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib, and company heads held discussions last week to expedite these works, he said.
The President stated that the required funds have now been allocated, and boulder rocks will be imported for all islands facing delays. He added that harbor development in Rathafandhoo will resume soon and will include a beach area.
