WHO award for Maldives achievements in Public Health

World Health Organization (WHO) presented awards to the Maldives yesterday for its significant achievements in safeguarding public health

The awards were given during a meeting of the WHO Regional Committee for Southeast Asia in New Delhi, recognizing the country's success in controlling hepatitis B in children and reducing mortality rates for children under five years, decrease in deaths occurring within a month of birth and at 20 weeks of pregnancy, Ministry of Health said.

The WHO Regional Committee meeting, held from Monday to today, is a key gathering of health ministers, officials, and professionals from 11 countries in the region.

WHO has previously recognized the Maldives for eradicating various diseases, including smallpox and filariasis.
