Mandhy and Shiuna summoned to Police over MDP protests

Two activists of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been summoned to police in relation to the series of protests the party is holding in capital Male' city.

Two activists of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been summoned to police in relation to the series of protests the party is holding in capital Male' city.

The summons chit sent by Police to Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) and Fathimath Shiuna read that they are being summoned in relation to a case against them where they are accused of gathering in areas of Male' against the Freedom of Assembly Act, raising voices, protesting, obstructing traffic, and obstructing police duties.

Mandhy is scheduled to present herself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 1.30 pm today, with Shiuna to attend at 1.30 pm next Monday.

MDP's serial protests over the past weeks are demonstrating against large numbers of people being allegedly removed from the list of flat recipients.

In response to these protests, Police have also earlier summoned former MP for Makunudhoo Mohamed Raaee and former MD of RDC Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) as well.
