Ghiyasuddin International School has donated MVR 500,000 to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
The school said the students in grades 8 and 9 donated MVR 50,000 from the proceeds of the 2019 and 2022 ABE Fair.
The students handed over the money to the International Aid Campaign (IAC), a local organization that helps people in need. The organization has also been raising funds to help the victims of the earthquake. The fund has received more than MVR 4.2 million so far.
The Maldivian Red Crescent also opened a relief fund to help the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria which collected MVR 2.9 million.
The death toll from the powerful earthquake on the Turkish-Syrian border has now risen to over 44,000. The death toll is still likely to rise as parts of buildings are removed and cleared, as a large number of people have been reported to be under the collapsed buildings.
