President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said in a meeting with residents of Malé city that the state will provide flats and land to the residents of the city as promised, without excluding anyone in need. The President spoke to the public at a function held in Dharubaaruge on Tuesday night.

He said that his administration has been implementing housing projects in the last five years at a scale that has not been attempted by previous administrations before.

While there are more than 16,000 flats, land plots and raw house projects ongoing across the country, 7,000 flats and 5,000 plots have been allocated for Malé residents.

“Im not saying this to manipulate votes. This has no connection to the elections. By mid 2023, we will issue land plots to the residents of Malé just as I have promised," he said.

There is no need for anyone else to talk about flats -- President Solih

President Solih said the Housing Ministry is currently evaluating the flat and land forms. After doing the work as well as possible in a transparent manner, housing will be provided without excluding anyone who meets the requirements, he said.

The housing projects initiated by this administration will be completed during this term.

At the meeting, the President also accused his contesting candidate, former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, of making false statements about the government's reserves and financial situation, with multiple false claims of the Maldives going bankrupt.
