Dr Mohamed Shafeeq, the first Minister of Finance appointed in the current government, has been appointed as the CEO of the Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone (MIDFZ).
Mihaaru News reports that Shafeeq was appointed to the post on January 27.
MIDFZ, established under STO by the current government, aims to strengthen the nation's economic security and promote value addition, transshipment, and re-export business.
Shafeeq is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), a position he took up three months after resigning as Finance Minister.
Prior to this, he served as HDFC's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2021 to 2023, and has held various senior roles within the organization.
He resigned from his post as Finance Minister on September 30, following changes made to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet.
