The man has been identified as Mohamed Ismail, H. Ehada.
He was taken under arrest from an apartment in Hiyaa Tower H13 in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
When taken to the Hulhumale' Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, he was placed in remand in custody for ten days.
Police said that they had gone to the flat after receiving reports of a woman crying. Once Police had knocked on the door of the flat, it had been opened by a woman.
According to her, the man had assaulted his mother, threatened to kill her and stolen her phone.
The mother had to be taken to the hospital for treatment following the assault.
Police are further investigating this incident.
