President Muizzu highlighted China's long-standing friendship with Maldives, and expressed his confidence that it would strengthen in the years to come.
China is among the most important partners in Maldives' development, said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, adding that he is confident the bilateral relationship between both countries will only grow stronger in the future.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge to mark China's National Day, President Muizzu said the long-standing relationship with China is based on respect, trust and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
He also said China has played an important role in Maldives' social and economic development and the relationship will continue to be strengthened in the future.
The president went on to say that he believes future collaboration could also be in tourism, economy, business, investment as well as cultural aspects, rather than infrastructure alone.
Maldives has always worked with China to overcome the major challenges facing the country, he further said, adding that it will remain the same in the coming days as well.
President Muizzu also expressed his confidence that the relationship will further strengthen and present opportunities in the future. He reflected on the Sinamalé bridge, which was build with Chinese assistance, as a "landmark" of the two countries' bond.
He also highlighted China's achievements in his speech, celebrating China becoming a major economic power in the world and its achievements in science, technology and its culture.
