Police have rescued a man being held hostage in a flat in Hiyaa Towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Twelve individuals have been arrested in relation to the case.
Police have rescued a man being held hostage in a flat in Hiyaa Towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Twelve individuals have been arrested in relation to the case.
The incident occurred in a flat in H9 tower, in Aparment 11 on the 20th floor.
Twelve people in the flat were taken under arrest by Police after the rescue last night.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan said that the victim had had his head shaved, and the perpetrators were about to cut off one of his fingers when Police had arrived at the scene.
"This is an apartment that has been searched by Police before as well in relation to drug related cases. It is only after the investigation that we can say whether the abduction was related to drugs or money," the Minister said.
Ihusan said that the relation between the victim and perpetrators are not known at this point.
"He said he goes fishing. Said he knows the perpetrators. The truth will come to light after further investigation."
Police had broken down the door and entered the apartment based on intelligence reports received, the Minister said.
"Our intel got information that a person was being held captive in that apartment," Ihusan said.
