Speaking at the inauguration of the Health Expo last night, Nazim said that the main target of the expo is to share information with the public to encourage building a healthy community, and to instill such habits amongst people.
The expo being held at the Hulhumale' Central Park was inaugurated by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. He also launched a book titled 'Hafthaa 53', a publication by the Health Ministry showcasing its work.
Speaking at the event, Nazim said that if the health system is forced to chase the spread of diseases, it would be difficult to reach the intended targets. As such, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's health policies largely focus on changing this status quo, he said.
Offering further details about this, the Minister noted that despite Maldives developing rapidly in other areas, the Food Safety Act had only been established recently. He further said that medical check-ups before an ailment is noticed, and air ambulance were also launched by this government with this target in mind.
Nazim went on to say that the President's policies show that it is not acceptable to proceed with the health system proving to be a large burden on the State. The government aims to further develop health facilities in urban centres so as to allow those in the atolls to receive treatment in their home areas without being forced to travel to capital Male' city for treatment every time.
He further highlighted the necessity to reform Aasandha services, and said that changes are being brought under advice from the President.
The Health Expo that commenced last night will continue today from 16:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs, and again from 20:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs. The expo has 50 stalls, including from Male' area hospitals, clinics and organizations.
