Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) Managing Director Mohamed Gasam has spoken out for the first time in response to the concerns surrounding the destroying of paperwork by the company.
In a post on social media X, Gasam stated that everything he has done in his capacity as MD of FSM has been done in the best interests of the company.
"I have always ensured that my family and I only ever consume legitimate earnings," he stated.
He claims that there is "no undue benefits" that he needs to conceal from the public or authorities.
"I remain steadfast in the values and good upbringing that my parents gave me."
The issue arose after Ahmed Anees, a meter technician at FSM, shared on social media a video showing FSM destroying a large amount of paperwork in a concrete mixer.
Anees has been subsequently suspended from his post at FSM, citing as a reason that he is part of 'an ongoing investigation'.
Last Monday, FSM stated that the documents seen being destroyed in the video are inconsequential, and are old and nugatory documents that have been held in storage for years.
However, the Anti Corruption Commission and the National Archives have called on the police to bring a halt to the act of destroying paperwork and to further investigate the matter.
