Male' new landowners group has stated that they have received assurance from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu that a confirmation letter guaranteeing they will be issued registries upon reclamation of the lands will be issued to those who were granted land plots, under the past administration's Binveriya housing scheme, from so far unreclaimed lands.

The group consists of four organizations: Hulhumale' Rayyithunge Committee (Hulhumale' Citizens Committee), Male' Rahvehinge Association (Male' Residents' Association), Gulhi Falhu Rayyithunge Association (Gulhi Falhu Citizen's Association) and Male' Citizens Association.

Representative of these NGOs, Sunaadh Latheef, said that in his meeting with the President, President Dr Muizzu had emphasized that he believes it is important to offer a guarantee of receiving land to those who have been included in the gazette as having been granted land plots.

"The President assured that efforts will be initiated to issue a document to every one granted land plots but haven't received registries yet. This document will state that once reclamation of the relevant land is completed, a registry detailing the coordinates of the land plot will be issued to the owner," Sunaadh said at last night's meeting with the land plot recipients.

The previous administration had begun issuing registries during their administration. However, after the change in government, the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has raised concerns about whether the registries are legally binding as they were issued from a land that did not exist at the time of issuing. Hence, issuance of registries have since been halted.

According to Sunaadh, the President further confirmed that locations of the land plots will also not be changed, adding that all those who are on the gazetted list will receive their land without doubt.

The President further promised to include these NGOs in deliberations on drafting the land use plan for the areas where residential land plots have been allocated.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih introduced the Binveriya housing scheme, under which 9000 plots of land located in Hulhumale' Phase 2, Hulhumale' Phase 3, Giraavaru Falhu and Gulhi Falhu is to be granted to eligible individuals.

Many of these recipients were given registries and even issued land at the time.
