Jaushan as new GS of controversy-riddled FAM

Controversy-riddled Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has appointed its Legal Director Mohamed Jaushan Shareef as the new General Secretary.

Controversy-riddled Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has appointed its Legal Director Mohamed Jaushan Shareef as the new General Secretary.

Hussain Jawaz, who has been the association's GS for the past eight years resigned from the position on Monday, November 27.

Regulations cite that the most senior administrative official's appointment to the association must come through the approval of FAM's Executive Committee after its president forwards the name for consideration.

Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the President of FAM, said that Jaushan was appointed as the new GS with the majority approval of the ExCo.

Earlier, FAM President had confirmed he accepted outgoing GS Jawaz's resignation, and thanked him for his contributions to the Maldivian football scene.

Jaushan, with a Masters Degree in Sports Law, is also an member of AFC's legal committee. He first joined FAM in 2007 as an administrator, and has been a panel member of the Anti-Doping Agency in Asia and Oceania's Central Result Management Panel.

The General Secretary of Handball Association in its previous term, Jaushan requested support from all relevant stakeholders in his efforts as the new GS of FAM.

"I hope for your continued support and endorsement in this important journey of promoting football," Jaushan, son of the Maldivian football legend Ibrahim Shareef (Garey), said in his message.

The new GS is faced with the monumental task of strengthening the association's management, and address the prevailing issue of non-payment to employees.

It was also reported that the outgoing GS, Jawaz, had six months salary due for him at the time of his resignation.

Besides league matches, there are no other ongoing activities in the Maldivian football scene currently.
