The death of Mohamed Hassan, whose body was discovered in the lagoon of Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi, was caused by drowning, with no evidence of another persons involvement, police said.

Mohamed Hassan's body was sent for a post-mortem to India to investigate the cause of death. The preliminary autopsy showed that he died of drowning. However, the final post-mortem report has not been received yet.

Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Samih in a press conference today said that CCTV footage showed Mohamed Hassan was active near the harbour on the night of the incident.

No other movement was seen in the area where he was last seen, Samih said. Mohamed fell into the sea from the harbour at approximately 02:55 hrs, he said.

He was found dead in the lagoon and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Although he had bruising on his body, there was no signs of a struggle, Samih said.

“So far, the investigation does not suggest anyone else was involved in the death of Mohamed Hassan,” Samih said.

Samih said the investigation into the case will be completed after receiving the final post-mortem report.
