The Criminal Court has granted a 14-day bail to Ahmed Moosa (Ammatee), the defendant in the SeaLife fraud case, allowing him to travel abroad.

Sealife company owner Moosa's passport was seized due to multiple fraud charges because he allegedly deceived individuals by promising to build flats in exchange for money.

Today, the Criminal Court approved the temporary release of his passport after he requested permission to travel abroad on the condition that he be accompanied by another person. The prosecution did not oppose the request, the court said.

As a result, the court has authorized Ammatee to depart the country for 14 days, starting from the date arranged by the Immigration Department. He is required to return to Maldives before the 14-day period ends, the court added.

Last year, the Criminal Court had initially allowed his passport to be released for an operation. However, the prosecution appealed, and the Supreme Court ruled that permitting him to leave the country was a mistake.
