US Ambassador discusses relations with Foreign Secretary

US Ambassador to Maldives Alaina Teplitz, on Tuesday, called on Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed.

During the meeting held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary and Ambassador Teplitz discussed issues of bilateral significance in order to further improve relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Teplitz expressed the US government’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in providing technical assistance to Maldives in key areas such as public financial management, rule of law, procurement policy and economic policies.

She also noted that the US was keen to explore support options concerning trade and investments, which would result in increased investments from US companies.

Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor expressed gratitude to the US government for its continued assistance and guaranteed the state's commitment to working with the United States on addressing priorities and global issues of mutual concern.

He also highlighted the government's eagerness to work closely with the US and regional partners to sustain peace and security in the region.

The Foreign Secretary was accompanied by Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shiuneen Rasheed and Senior Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aishath Zeeshan Zuhuree.

Ambassador Teplitz was accompanied by USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman, Political Chief Christopher Jester, Deputy Political Chief Marcus Carpenter and Political Officer of the US Embassy Travis Hall.
