President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with Chinese Head of Delegation to UNGA 79, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday.

During the meeting, President Muizzu highlighted the significance of the Maldives' relationship with China and discussed the ongoing agreements and projects between the two countries. He expressed gratitude for China's continued support in the development of the Maldives' tourism sector, highlighting the positive impact this partnership has had on the nation's economy and growth.

In response, Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting the Maldives in all areas of cooperation.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining collaboration, particularly in addressing shared concerns such as climate change and efforts towards climate adaptation, President's Office said.

China, as a strong development partner of Maldives, has contributed significantly to several key infrastructure projects, including the Sinamale' Bridge, which connects Male' to Hulhumale' and Hulhule, as well as housing projects, involving the construction of flats, and road development in various islands.
