Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) confirms it will announce the final recipients list of the second phase of the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya schemes before the presidential term ends.
More than 40,000 people applied for the social housing schemes' second phase which includes 21,247 applications for Gedhoruveriya; seeking housing units in Greater Male' region, and 19,347 applications for Binveriya; seeking land plots.
However, with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidency wrapping up on November 17, the government has not provided details about its decision for the second phase recipients earlier.
The State Minister of MNPHI Akram Kamaluddin on Sunday, October 30 said the recipients list for the second phase will be processed completely before President Solih's term concludes.
He also assured announcing the list of recipients before the presidential term ends.
Eligibility criteria for the social housing schemes were changed for the second round. Under this change, applicants who have resided in Greater Male' region for a period of 15 years or more were eligible for Gedhoruveriya scheme while applicants living in Male' region for more than 20 years were eligible for Binveriya scheme.
Currently the government is issuing registry for eligible applicants of the first round as well.
Akram said that the first round of eligible recipients will receive their registry documents for the 4,000 flats currently being developed in Hulhumale' 2.
Meanwhile, President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who is scheduled to take oath of office on November 17, pledged he will not cancel the applications of the second phase of the social housing schemes.
